Size Matters in choosing an Assisted Living by Donna Holland, RN Senior Care Advisor

Updated: Jul 4, 2022

When in search of assissted living, families will find some larger resort style communities that are able to accomadate over one hundred seniors and others that are much smaller with less than twenty residents. The size of the assisted living community is one of the huge determining factors of whether or not a community is a good fit for a loved one.

Large Assisted Living communities such as Morada Assisted Living in Friendswood or Elmcroft in Texas City have accomadations for over one hundred seniors. Seniors who are active and out going would be a good fit . It provides opportunties for socialization, outings, and privacy with apartment style living. Seniors who require memory care could also be a good fit if the community has a memory care unit like Heartis Clear Lake. Memory care units offer a secure space for residents to explore their surroundings in a safe manner. Large assisted living communities offer beautiful spacious living and tons of fun activities.

The smaller family style assisted living communties such as Psalm 23 in El Lago or Gamble's Personal Care Home in Texas City, have space for under 20 seniors and would be a perfect fit for a senior who is not as active or who doesn't do well in larger crowds . The small intimate setting allows for close access to caregivers as well as supervision and monitoring if the senior has health issues.
